LILA 2017 Public Choice Award for the Nørreport Station

Copenhagen's Nørreport Station was awarded the LILA 2017 Public Choice Award at the Landezine-Live-Event in Ljubljana on 29 September.

The project by Bartenbach lighting design, COBE, and Gottlieb Paludan Architects provides users with an attractive transfer hub, accessible public space and innovative lighting design. The redesign of Nørreport Station has transformed a chaotic transport facility into a safe and appealing urban space for its 250,000 daily users.

The lighting concept is limited to but a few elements and is based entirely on LED technology. Eleven illuminated columns not only hide the ventilation ducts that are necessary for the underground train platforms, they also help guide pedestrians across the plaza at night. The underside of the flat roofs are bathed in light, turning them into “light-magnets”. Points of light illuminate the many bicycle stands. The lighting design emphasises the urban space's openness and transparency and is as much an innate part of the architecture as the buildings are a perfect fit in the urban area surrounding them.

The Landezine International Landscape Awards (LILA) were created to honour innovative landscape architecture offices and landscape architecture projects.
