Paracelsusbad and Kurhaus Salzburg

After more than two years of construction the new Paracelsusbad prominently situated in the center of Salzburg’s Kurgarten has been completed. By realizing the Paracelsusbad, Salzburg has just opened the most up-to-date public indoor swimming pool. With its exemplary architecture and its modern, future-oriented overall concept, a significant impulse and milestone in the contemporary Austrian but also European thermal bath and spa landscape has been achieved.

For this unique architectonic project, we planned and implemented an innovative illumination concept. Our Lighting Design department developed an architecture-integrated lighting solution that optimally meets the different requirements of the various functional areas in the swimming pool, in the wellness and sauna zones as well as in the restaurant. We put special emphasis on high-grade LED lighting, perfectly coordinated with the artistic colors and material surfaces, that creates a pleasant atmosphere and optimizes the conditions of use and quality of stay.

One goal we focused on was to improve the daylight use of the swimming pool, the entrance area and the changing rooms, complementing it naturally with daylight-dependent, controlled and dynamically adjustable correlating color temperatures from 2700 to 5700 Kelvin, to create an homogenous and glare-free illumination. More brilliance, better color rendering, and a broad light spectrum produce an especially good daylight quality, create ideal lighting conditions and offer visitors an impressive ambience.

At night, the external visibility of the swimming pool is the highlight of the Kurgarten. Of course, the ecological challenges for this building are also sustainably solved by the very economical energy consumption of the LED lighting systems.
