Austrian Green Planet Building Award for Sheikh Zayed Desert Learning Centre
As part of the first awards ceremony of the Austrian Green Planet Building Award, the Sheikh Zayed Desert Learning Centre in Al Ain in the United Arab Emirates was honoured for being one of the most energy-efficient and ambitious buildings in the entire Gulf region. The Learning Centre, designed by Chalabi Architects, combines outstanding architecture with aspects of sustainability such as energy efficiency and the use of renewable energy sources. Bartenbach lighting design is responsible for the project's comprehensive lighting design.
Austrian construction know-how was part of the project from the initial planning to final implementation, and helped make it possible to meet the high standards required for the lighting design, building services, thermal comfort and sustainable cooling of the building.
The Austrian Green Planet Building umbrella brand is jointly supported by the Austrian Federal Ministry of Sustainability and Tourism, the Austrian Federal Ministry for Transport, Innovation and Technology and Advantage Austria, and serves to increase international awareness of outstanding sustainable and energy-efficient Austrian engineering andconstruction services.
