The historic St. Marien's Church serves as the central foyer and focus of the new Ruhr Music Centre in Bochum. The sacral building is illuminated through the use of indirect spotlights that shine on the ceiling. Aluminium panels with white expanded metal distribute the light in this former church and create fascinating patterns on the ceiling. Reflections on the white ceiling also provide the building with diffuse source of light.
